Embroidery stitches: Stem Stitch [TAST 2012 #15]

I joined the Take A Stitch Tuesday project in 2012 to teach myself embroidery and learn from others; these are my stitches.

I had some trouble getting this one right, but I especially liked the effect combined with couching.
